Expand your musical taste at the Accordion Festival! Coming up October 9-11 in San Antonio, Texas, this is the place to learn what a Parisian musette is, and to experience every corner of the accordion world, from Balkan to Basque, Czech polka to Creole zydeco, Americana to Acadiana. Check out www.accordionapocalypse.com for more upcoming accordion events. On the same note (and closer to home) how about the 8th Annual Southern California Ukulele Festival? Saturday, Oct 3 at the Cerritos Park East Community Center, 13234 E. 166th Street (between Carmenita and Shoemaker). And to get you in the mood for some good music, check out Amanda Palmer singing Radiohead’s “Creep.”
Hollywood Bowl
Thursday, June 11th, 2009
We’re sticking close to home this summer but one of the great things about staying in LA is that I won’t miss any of the great shows at the Hollywood Bowl. Of course I’m excited to see Raphael Saadiq, whose album might be my favorite of the year, and who could forget the return of Grace Jones. But I also love the Bowl because it combines two of my favorite passions: live music and cooking. Half the fun is preparing a delicious picnic for our friends and picking out that oh-so-fabulous bottle of wine. One of my winning picnic recipes is Diane Worthington’s poached salmon with tomato basil vinaigrette, from her classic cookbook The Cuisine of California, published by Chronicle Books. Click here for the recipe and I’ll see you at the Bowl! Check out this summer’s schedule at hollywoodbowl.com
