Here Comes the Sun!

Carey

Summer is here, but you don’t have to wait until you’ve spent hours on the beach for your hair to get that sun-touched look. Instead come in to Taboo and let us give you some dazzling sunlights. Different than highlights, sunlights are a technique we’ve perfected that weaves golden shades into the top and ends of the hair—the same places typically affected by the sun and surf. (And because sunlights don’t take as long as highlights, we’ll have you in and out the door in no time!)

Do you love the water, but hate the damaging (and time-consuming) blow-drying every dip demands? Then you will love the Brazilian Blowout. This fantastic smoothing treatment will tame your hair and eliminate frizz without taking out all the curl—leaving your hair incredibly soft and with amazing shine. The Brazilian Blowout last three to four months, and gives you the option of drying your hair naturally or with a dryer (dry time is cut in half). Print out this gift certificate for $50 and put it towards the regular price—then let the pool parties begin.

Melu ImgMonths of sun, salt, and chlorine can take their toll on even the healthiest of hair. Stop the damage before it begins with two new ultra-protective and conditioning product lines from Davines. The “Su” products provide sun protection with a shampoo, conditioner, an after-sun pak, and a leave-in oil and cream (a must for your beach bag). Their “Melu” line features formulations to address the specific needs of long hair, which is more prone to dryness and breakage. Try their anti-breakage shampoo and conditioner to keep hair moisturized and supple, heat-protection spray to guard against the harm caused by blow drying and irons, and repairing serum to shape up those dry, split ends. Enjoy 15% off all these products now through the end of August!! Call us at 323.655.3770 or drop us an email at appointments@taboohaircare.com to make an appointment today.

From Short Cuts:

l.a. Eyeworks

Your hair isn’t the only thing that needs protecting during these sunny months, so be sure to treat your eyes to some stunning cover-ups of their own. I called  our friend and client Gai Gerradi of l.a. Eyeworks and asked her to share some of her favorite sunglasses from their new collection.  She picked these bold and stylish frames  that combine glamorous geometry with modern colors—stunning! Visit one of their two locations and have a ball trying some on. If you’ve never been to an l.a. Eyeworks before (and even if you have), prepare yourself for a great shopping experience. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable, and has an amazing eye for what frames will flatter your face, because—as my friends at l.a. Eyeworks say—“A face is like a work of art . . . it deserves a great frame.”

Le Petit Bistro

For a little taste of Paris right on La Cienega, stop by Le Petit Bistro. The crowd is predominantly regulars like myself (I’ve been there five times in the last two months), who come back time and again for the well-prepared authentic French cuisine, including frogs’ legs and escargot! My choice of their fine fare is some thing from their extensive menu of fresh seasonal fish. Relax on their newly-added patio, and you’re sure to enjoy the perfect summer dining experience. The owners are three charming clients of mine—George, Albert, and Robert—and if you tell them you heard about Le Petit Bistro from Taboo, dessert is on them—with a kiss on both cheeks, of course!

Summer Trifle!

Summer Trifle! Some of you may have noticed the promo’s for Gordon Ramsey’s new cooking show Masterchef. Well yours truly tried out for the show with my famous Trifle. I didn’t make the cut (although they loved the Trifle), but I will share with you the summer version (just substitute pears and rubarb with a mixture of fresh berries) which will surely wow guests at your summer gatherings!

Michael Woolson

Acting coach Michael Woolson has been a client of Taboo’s for many years. Without a doubt, Michael is one of the most well-respected acting coaches in town. When working on my own one-woman show I had the privilege of sitting in on Michael’s classes, and watching him in action is an inspiring and awesome experience. Michael has written two amazing books that tap into different aspects of the craft. The first is Emotion on Demand, which will help any actor summon the perfect emotions needed to deliver any performance. After a fantastic response to Emotion on Demand, Michael has written a second book, The Work of the Actor, which we will have on-hand at the salon as soon as it is off the press next month! It offers a wealth of detailed instruction and inspiration for delivering authentic, layered performances. A must-read for any actor!
