l.a. Eyeworks

Thursday, July 15th, 2010

Your hair isn’t the only thing that needs protecting during these sunny months, so be sure to treat your eyes to some stunning cover-ups of their own. I called  our friend and client Gai Gerradi of l.a. Eyeworks and asked her to share some of her favorite sunglasses from their new collection.  She picked these bold and stylish frames  that combine glamorous geometry with modern colors—stunning! Visit one of their two locations and have a ball trying some on. If you’ve never been to an l.a. Eyeworks before (and even if you have), prepare yourself for a great shopping experience. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable, and has an amazing eye for what frames will flatter your face, because—as my friends at l.a. Eyeworks say—“A face is like a work of art . . . it deserves a great frame.”

Tomboy

tomboySpeaking of kids, definitely check out my friend Cleo Pollock’s new kids’ clothing store in Silver Lake called Tomboy. Cleo has worked as a stylist for many years and she certainly knows how to pick ’em! Tomboy carries a selection of interesting independent lines, including Serendipity Organics from Denmark with its clean Scandinavian design; Nico Nico, an organic, modern, unisex line designed and produced here in L.A., Petit Bateau’s matelot stripes, Clover NY’s Indian block prints; and bold prints by Kit+Lili. Spring and summer stock will start arriving in-store shortly, so if you’ve got little ones, plan on making a big haul here! 2945 Rowena Avenue, Silver Lake 323.644.1475

Tulip

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

tulipOne of my kids’ favorite gifts this year were tie-dye leggings I bought from my long-time friend Cheryl, also known as Tulip. Tulip has been a fixture at the Hollywood Farmers’ Market for 15 years selling handmade incense—we go back even farther than that: Cheryl and I have been friends since we were teenagers!—and she has always produced her own line of handmade clothing. Her new tie-dye items are not your usual Grateful Dead flashbacks. The "new beautiful" line is feminine and edgy, taking gently used and vintage pieces and tie-dyeing them with unique colors and techniques. We love sporting the leggings at Taboo, especially in the recent chilly weather. We do have a few pairs of her leggings here at Taboo for $25.00, but Cheryl’s booth is always worth a visit—she’s at the Hollywood Farmers’ Market every Sunday. Palmela G. Swimwear

Palmela G. SwimwearEven though I’m not officially going on vacation, I still might have to pick up one of the sweet swimsuits at the brand-new Palmela G. Swimwear here on 3rd Street. You can choose from one of the snappy suits on display or choose your fabric from the many colorful options and Palmela herself will make you the bikini or one-piece of your dreams. I’m also a fan of the super cute retro-looking swim hats with flowers affixed to them. A must for any bathing beauty. 7922 West 3rd Street
