One of the most beloved foodies in Los Angeles, chef, cookbook author and KCRW’s Good Food host Evan Kleiman, celebrates 25 years at her fantastic Angeli Caffé this month–my husband Michael actually designed the Angeli logo 25 years ago! To celebrate, Evan’s having several festive events in January. There will be a kid-friendly pizza and pasta party from 12-4pm, then a grand, grownup dinner under the stars starting at 7:30pm. For more information on these events sign up for their newsletter on their website. In the meantime, drop in to the restaurant between now and 2010 to congratulate Evan and enjoy three-course dinners for $25. One bite of Evan’s rustic Italian cooking and you’ll be dining there for the next 25 years, believe me. 7274 Melrose, www.angelicaffe.com

City Walks Architecture: New York
Thursday, October 29th, 2009
Autumn is a lovely time to visit New York and Taboo friend and client Alissa Walker has just written the definitive guide to walking by and gawking at the city’s architecture, published by my favorite publisher, Chronicle Books. City Walks Architecture: New York features 25 itineraries around the city, each focused around a theme, so you can spend the day wandering Sustainable Skyscrapers, Midtown Modernism or Brooklyn Brownstones. The walks are designed as small cards so you can tuck them in your pocket instead of lugging around a touristy-looking book. ChronicleBooks.com
National Park
Wednesday, September 9th, 2009
I’ve got six words to say: Get yourself to a national park! Don’t waste a minute. They are ours to enjoy. Start with Yellowstone National Park and stay at the Old Faithful Inn. Stay away from the buffet, but drink in the the ancient gurgling primordial soup. First stop, Mammoth Hot Springs then on to the Petrified Tree (take the Blacktail Plateau Drive). Then take the walk to Tower Falls. Carry on to Canyon Village and have your binoculars ready: You might see grizzly bear, elk, moose, and wolves. Drive south to Artist Point for the most spectacular view of yellow cliffs and the roaring river. Get to Grand Prismatic Springs (probably the most stunning pools in the park) and, of course, Old Faithful. Next stop: The Grand Tetons. Stay at Jackson Lake Lodge designed by architect Gilbert Stanley Underwood and considered a prime example of the mid-20th century International Style. It offers a spectacular view of the Tetons. Take a float trip down the Snake River at dusk and a boat ride on Jenny Lake. Plus, there are miles and miles of flat bicycle trails. www.nps.gov
