l.a. Eyeworks

Thursday, July 15th, 2010

Your hair isn’t the only thing that needs protecting during these sunny months, so be sure to treat your eyes to some stunning cover-ups of their own. I called  our friend and client Gai Gerradi of l.a. Eyeworks and asked her to share some of her favorite sunglasses from their new collection.  She picked these bold and stylish frames  that combine glamorous geometry with modern colors—stunning! Visit one of their two locations and have a ball trying some on. If you’ve never been to an l.a. Eyeworks before (and even if you have), prepare yourself for a great shopping experience. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable, and has an amazing eye for what frames will flatter your face, because—as my friends at l.a. Eyeworks say—“A face is like a work of art . . . it deserves a great frame.”

Le Petit Bistro

Thursday, July 15th, 2010

For a little taste of Paris right on La Cienega, stop by Le Petit Bistro. The crowd is predominantly regulars like myself (I’ve been there five times in the last two months), who come back time and again for the well-prepared authentic French cuisine, including frogs’ legs and escargot! My choice of their fine fare is some thing from their extensive menu of fresh seasonal fish. Relax on their newly-added patio, and you’re sure to enjoy the perfect summer dining experience. The owners are three charming clients of mine—George, Albert, and Robert—and if you tell them you heard about Le Petit Bistro from Taboo, dessert is on them—with a kiss on both cheeks, of course!

Tomboy

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

tomboySpeaking of kids, definitely check out my friend Cleo Pollock’s new kids’ clothing store in Silver Lake called Tomboy. Cleo has worked as a stylist for many years and she certainly knows how to pick ’em! Tomboy carries a selection of interesting independent lines, including Serendipity Organics from Denmark with its clean Scandinavian design; Nico Nico, an organic, modern, unisex line designed and produced here in L.A., Petit Bateau’s matelot stripes, Clover NY’s Indian block prints; and bold prints by Kit+Lili. Spring and summer stock will start arriving in-store shortly, so if you’ve got little ones, plan on making a big haul here! 2945 Rowena Avenue, Silver Lake 323.644.1475

Chefs, Inc.

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

As I’ve mentioned before, I’m an avid cook, and so are my daughters. To all you budding Julias out there, I highly recommend taking a class to hone your skills. We like Chefs, Inc., a great local culinary school. Chefs, Inc. especially caters to the younger set, offers a kids camp for those children you can’t keep out of the kitchen, and a beginning culinary program just for teens. There’s also a whole variety of classes for adults, from healthy cooking techniques to mastering knife skills. But once you get the kids enrolled you’ll never have to cook a meal again, right? 10955 West Pico Blvd., 310.470.2277
